The ELC EVEN 90 is a light tank that was developed by the French company BRUNON-VALETTE in the late 1950s as part of the ELC (Engin Léger de Combat) program. The aim of the program was to create a light, airborne tank for fire support purposes. The ELC EVEN 90 was one of the variants of the ELC project that featured a turret with a low-pressure 90 mm D919 gun, which fired HEAT rounds with a muzzle velocity of 700 m/s. The vehicle had a very low profile, with a height of only 1.7 m, and a weight of less than 9 tons. The vehicle had a crew of two: a driver who was located in the hull and had to crouch, and a commander/gunner who operated the turret. The vehicle had no radio operator or loader.
The ELC EVEN 90 was never mass-produced, but one prototype and 10 pre-production vehicles were built and tested between 1957 and 1963. The vehicle proved to be agile and stealthy, but also had some drawbacks, such as poor accuracy, limited ammunition capacity, and lack of protection. The vehicle was also vulnerable to recoil, which could damage the suspension and affect the stability. The ELC program was eventually canceled in 1963 due to budget cuts and changing military requirements.
The ELC EVEN 90 was introduced in World of Tanks as a French tier 8 premium light tank in update 9.22 in February 2018.
