The Škoda T 56 is a Czechoslovakian heavy tank that was developed in the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was based on the Soviet IS-2 and IS-3 tanks, but with a modified hull, suspension, and turret. The most distinctive feature of the Škoda T 56 was its 130 mm gun with a two-round autoloader, which gave it a high burst damage potential. However, the tank never entered mass production or service, and only a few prototypes were built.
The reason for the cancellation of the project was the unification of armament of Warsaw Pact countries, which required Czechoslovakia to adopt Soviet tanks and weapons. The Škoda T 56 was considered too different from the Soviet designs and incompatible with their standards. Instead, Czechoslovakia produced licensed copies of the Soviet T-34-85 and IS-2 tanks, as well as developed its own variants of the T-54 and T-55 tanks.
In World of Tanks, the Škoda T 56 is a tier VIII premium heavy tank that can perform well in different roles and situations. It has a reliable frontal armor, a fast-firing 130 mm gun, and good mobility. The Škoda T 56 can flank, brawl, snipe, or support depending on the needs of the team. However, the Škoda T 56 also has some weaknesses, such as weak side and rear armor and low penetration with its standard AP shells. The Škoda T 56 requires good situational awareness, positioning, and angling to make the most of its strengths and minimize its drawbacks.
The Škoda T 56 has an alpha damage of 460 with its standard AP shells, which is one of the highest in its tier and class. The only tier VIII heavy tanks that have higher alpha damage are the VK 100.01 (P), the Mauerbrecher, and the E 75 TS, which have 490 alpha damage with their 128 mm guns. The Škoda T 56 also has a two-round autoloader, which gives it a high burst damage potential of 920 in 3.5 seconds. This makes it a very dangerous opponent in close combat.
