The VK 36.01 (H) was an experimental German heavy tank, developed during World War II by Henschel. The vehicle was a further development of the VK 30.01 (H) experimental medium tank, and a stage in the design process for the Tiger. A total of eight chassis and one complete prototype were built in 1942. The VK 36.01 (H) was designed as a breakthrough tank, capable of penetrating enemy defenses and engaging heavy armored vehicles. It was armed with a 75 mm KwK 36 L/56 gun, the same as the one used on the Panzer IV F2/G, or a 105 mm howitzer. It had a maximum armor thickness of 145 mm on the front hull and turret, and a weight of about 40 tons.
However, the VK 36.01 (H) project was canceled in favor of the VK 45.01 (H), which became the basis for the Tiger I tank. The Tiger I had a more powerful 88 mm KwK 36 L/56 gun, a thicker armor of up to 120 mm, and a heavier weight of about 57 tons. The VK 36.01 (H) prototype was used for testing purposes until it was scrapped in 1944. In World of Tanks, the VK 36.01 (H) is a German tier 6 heavy tank. It has two main gun options: the 7.5/5.5 cm Waffe 0725, which has good penetration and rate of fire, but low alpha damage; or the 8.8 cm KwK 36 L/56, which has higher alpha damage and accuracy, but lower penetration and rate of fire.
The VK 36.01 (H) has good mobility for a heavy tank, with a top speed of 50 km/h and a power-to-weight ratio of 11.9 hp. It also has decent armor, especially on the front hull and turret, which can bounce shots from lower-tier tanks and some same-tier tanks. However, the VK 36.01 (H) also has some drawbacks, such as a large profile, weak side and rear armor, low gun depression, and poor camouflage. The VK 36.01 (H) is best played as a second-line support tank or a flanker, using its mobility and gun to exploit weak spots and deal damage to enemies.
