‘Rule of Thumb’ Tank Checklist for Strongholds Tier 8

Version 3.41.30 – Updated 27th of February of 2023

A few rule of thumb to cover the basics for the Tier 8 Strongholds. In general Tier 8 consist of a two group split with 1 very heavy battalion supported by fast and nimble burst damage vehicles. The very skilled teams often picks and prioritizes a majority of fast medium tanks with burst damage potential rather than heavies. Alternatively your tank selection can indicate a very defensive strategy and utilizing tank destroyers alongside super heavies. The more lighter tanks requires in general the most skills and is more dependent on a well performed strategy whereas the defensive strategy can in theory be performed with a majority of legionnaires in your ranks.

Tier 8 (Competitive) – Strongholds

The 1,2,3… scale should be strongly considered as the difference between number 1 and 2 can often be extreme!

Quick Rule of Thumb

Tier 8 consist of way more advanced strategies when you compare it to Tier 6 both in tank numbers, amount of maps and the sheer selection of tier 8 tanks. As these lists are and will be updated as more content is added then we listed a few basic rule of thumbs that more often than not are advisable are as follows;

  1. One Commander to Rule them all” – The Commander is always right, if you are asked to drive into the water to drown yourself then you do it. Any disagreement or questions of the commanders orders should be taken after the battle.
  2. Not Random Battle” – The Strongholds is a team effort and your only and single objective should be to support the team to win and not train your crew, deal most damage, most kills or whatever personal goal you set. If you are new to the Strongholds your biggest challenge will be to forget the random battle strategies.
  3. Use your brain” – Make the best out of the scenario you are put into. Do whatever you can within the orders of the commander but as your commander isn’t and should not be a puppet-master, then stick to the plan and use the opportunities that will be served in front of you as the battle evolves.
  4. Voice Com Discipline” – Keep the communication related to the game at hand and keep it at bare minimum. In the heat of the battle having 7 people talking simultaneously or listening to a very interesting story of how your shell missed a tank might seem very interesting but it is not adding anything to the battle at hand.
  5. Focus Fire” – The single most important rule to get an advantage in any team battle. Cant shoot at the target? Take out the one with lowest health. There are too many battles lost 0-7 or similar where the enemy team has all their tanks at a one shot. 2 nearly dead tanks are stronger than one at full health if played correctly.
  6. F7 – Spotted!” – Did you get spotted? Click F7, so the commander knows what your opponent teams know. Yelling “spotted” takes valuable time away unless your voice is unique. The combat intelligence is one of the most important aspects to the game, this only increases as you progress further up in the Strongholds Tier.

Strongholds – Few Extra Tips;

  • If you decide to bring slow loading auto loaders (not re-loaders), then make sure to bring at least 2 and keep them working in pairs with enough potential damage to take out a full health enemy tank in 1 clip.
  • If you do not have an EBR 75 FL 10 or Lynx 6×6 among your ranks and/or if your team struggles then think about either bringing a super aggressive LT-432 to counter it or support your light tank with a fast auto loader in the beginning of the battle (Bourrasque/Lorraine 40t).

Tank Checklist for Strongholds – Tier 6

A few rule of thumb to cover the basics for the Tier 6 Strongholds. In general Tier 6 consist of a wide variety of tanks as this tier provides a good entry level to start their journey into the competitive WOT gameplay. When encountering better teams they will most often consist of 6 medium tanks alongside a single light tank.

Version 3.11.02 – Updated 16th of June 2022

Tier 6  (Competitive)

The 1,2,3… scale should be strongly considered as the difference between number 1 and 2 can often be extreme!

  • 1. T 34-85M (Alpha Damage, Mobility, DPM, Gun Handling)
    • 2. T 34-85
    • 2. Rudy
      • 3 Cromwell B (Mobility, DPM)

      • 3. T-50-2 (Mobility, Gun Handling)

Tier 6  (HoKx Clan)

In the HoKx clan when training new Field Commanders or when introducing players to tier 6 Strongholds or training tank push strategies, then we utilize 6x VK.36.01 H alongside 1x light tank as this setup usually provides a gigantic HP pool advantage (1800-2500+) and better allows both the commander and the players to do minor mistakes during the battle.

Quick Rule of Thumb

Tier 6 consist of the most basic strategies but this does not mean that its a “Free for All Fest“. A few rule of thumbs that more often than not are advisable are as follows;

  6. Arty Ready” – When the Commander yells ‘Arty Ready’ look upon the skies for artillery shells if your groups location is spotted by keeping the vehicle mobile. This is especially important for heavy slow targets.
  7. F7 – Spotted!” – Did you get spotted? Click F7, so the commander knows what your opponent teams know. Yelling “spotted” takes valuable time away unless your voice sounds unique. The combat intelligence is one of the most important aspects to the game, this only increases as you progress further up in the Strongholds Tier.

  4. For participating in HoKx events then discord https://discord.gg/rPnv3pA84 is mandatory for listening but a microphone is generally not needed

II – About HoKx:

  • We are a relaxed English-speaking clan who like to play skirmish and Clan Wars.  We are recruiting players who are over 25 years old and active in the game and enjoy team events.  We use our Discord channel as our main communication tool and there is a large repository of information on the channel, so please install Discord – there is no requirement to speak on Discord but you will at least need to be able to listen to commands during skirmishes.  https://discord.gg/rPnv3pA84e
  • There are no skill requirements to join HOKX.  The only requirements are that you are actively playing World Of Tanks and you are respectful to other clan members and at least 25 years old.  Ideally you will also enjoy playing skirmish events and Clan Wars.  Although attendance isn’t compulsory, we hope that you would join events if you are online and playing at the time.  We also encourage clan members to play together in platoons but this is not compulsory either.
  • We try to run skirmishes on most evenings and these can be tier VI, VIII or X.  All are welcome to join regardless of experience but we ask that you look towards grinding at least one of the recommended tanks from our list inside https://hokx.com/.  We keep the skirmish voice channel as clean as possible during battles so that the team can hear the commander, so please respect that when you join.
  • Credit boosters run currently from 18:00 CET to 24:00 CET every day including weekends.  We also run additional boosters fairly often. We play competitively and we want to win, but not at the expense of it being fun, the emphasis is about playing in a coordinated team with a relaxed but mature atmosphere where the focus is more on an enjoyable experience than win-rate, if so then chances are good that you will enjoy being a part of our HoKx Clan.

III – What does Team HoKx offer you?:

  1. Well Organized (members in all age groups 25-60y+)
  2. Daily Clan Events! (Check out our weekly planned event overview inside our HoKx Discord Server)

  5. We work together as 1 team (not as individuals in for example Skirmish events)
  6. Opportunity to try out Field Commanding or even Hosting Fun, RNG, FFA events and more.
  7. Loads of various Administrative Opportunities for interested members.
  8. We often have our HoKx Clan members featured inside our YouTube tank reviews battles – feel free to check them out https://www.youtube.com/c/ifacepalm

IV – Extra Info

  • Our battle tactics are different as we are not relying on personal individual skills – This means that we are NOT utilizing campy hull down strategies and therefore tanks in this field are generally not recommended but where fast Soviet Heavy tanks with RNG’ armor often are.
  • We never require members to buy premium tanks or use gold ammo in Skirmish events
  • We always offer tech tree alternatives for participating in events
  • Ultimately we want to earn lots of credits while having fun doing it
  • For our members who want to participate in the more competitive ‘Clan Wars battles on the global map, then we have strict tank requirements, crew, equipment, ammo, etc.
  • Every Field Commander is rated by their skill to make their session enjoyable – Win rate is not rated!
  • Every Field Commander is expected to wear the rank, meaning ultimately the “blame / reason” always is on the Officer in Charge.
  • Our clan Skirmish event policy is that win rate is not important but wanting to be a part of a team is – This is vital as we putting a lot of effort into training aggressive push strategies, that are dependent on rush attacking without stopping!
  • We are putting lot of effort into various push strategies that requires the team to work as a team – This gives some hectic and intense combat scenarios in comparison to camping in the back.

Quick Rule of Thumb

Tier 10 is generally battled by the best clans in game where you risk facing the best players. This tier is not only hard but can get very expensive quickly as you should expect to be required to fill plenty of gold shells together with directives and premium consumables.

In the heat of the battle having 14 people talking simultaneously or listening to a very interesting story of how your shell missed a tank might seem very interesting but it is not adding anything to the battle at hand.
Yelling “spotted” takes valuable time away unless your voice an tank is unique. The combat intelligence is one of the most important aspects to the game, this only increases as you progress further up in the Strongholds Tier.
